Bonefishing have been really active as of late and will be frequenting the flats as we turn to our fall pattern! In my opinion this is the best time of year to fish for Bones as water temps begin to cool in the coming months the fish stay active on the flats for longer periods of time. Here is a quick report of Biscayne Bay and what techniques have been working for my Clients!

Weather and Conditions:

Right now, Biscayne Bay is enjoying those classic, warm summertime vibes. Temperatures are hovering in the mid to high 80s (Fahrenheit), and we’ve had a lot of calm, glassy mornings that are perfect for sight fishing. The water clarity is excellent, which means you can spot those bonefish tailing on the flats nice and early.

Fishing Pressure:

One of the great perks this season is that there’s relatively low boat traffic during weekdays. That means you’ve got a lot of prime flats all to yourself, giving the fish a little less pressure and making them more willing to play along.

Bonefish Activity:

Bonefish have been active and responsive, especially in the early mornings and late afternoons. They’re tailing along the shallow flats, and you can definitely get them to bite if you present a well-placed fly or a small shrimp imitation.

Techniques and Tips:

Fly fishing is absolutely the go-to technique here. A lightweight rod with a shrimp or crab pattern fly is working wonders. If you prefer spinning gear, small jigs or soft plastics in natural colors are a solid bet too.
